Advice For Avoiding Dents

As everyone knows prevention is far better than cure, on this page you will find some helpful tips on avoiding getting a dent.

Car Parks
The majority of dents happen in car parks, so it is worth thinking about where you park, try to find parking spaces with plenty of room around them, this way there is less likely hood of somebody bashing your car with their door while trying to squeeze in.
Try to find  a space where someone has parked in the middle of their space and do the same in yours.
Although it's tempting to take a space near to the entrance, parking a bit further away may find you a better spot with less passing traffic.
It is also often tempting to rest your shopping on your car while you try to find your car key, but keep these heavy items away from the car as they can cause scratches as well as dents.

Car Garages

If you keep your car in your garage, then take note that this is yet another danger area. If your children are storing their toys or bikes in there, do not expect your car to be their first priority.
Spades, rakes, and lawnmowers that are propped up against the walls often fall and land against your car and cause damage, normal scratches as well as dents.
If you have a lot of stuff in the garage, you should consider if your car might be safer parked in the street! or may be the best option maybe to invest in a shed to store your garden tools and the kids toys.
Never sit on your car or allow anybody else to do so, certainly never sit on the bonnet as many people seem to do this action can cause large dents.

Parking in the Street

An increasing amount of damage is caused by people hitting cars while they are parked in the street, and leaving without any insurance details, while this is illegal more and more people decide to leave the scene of an accident without reporting or leaving their details, the good news is more and more people are seeing people do this and are taking down the details of these people and reporting them to the police. There are still ways to prevent this cause of damage, try not to park opposite wide vehicles such as 4x4’s or Vans, a lot of people do not know the width of their vehicle and are so busy making sure they do not hit the big vehicle they hit yours. Many dents are caused by children playing in the street with tennis and footballs, again it is probably best to park a little down the road although the majority of these accidents are not on purpose kids are kids and accidents do happen.

Opening Doors

Another increasing cause for dents are people opening doors against posts. One thing to check when parking is to see if there are any posts, although you can be as careful as you like, it only takes a gust of wind to hit your door for you to loose control and hit that post while getting out. Be careful where the posts are for your passengers it is more likely a passenger will hit a post than yourself
